Juventus – Sampdoria

The reigning champion Juventus starts its Serie A season with a home game against Sampdoria on Sunday. Because of Andrea Pirlo’s debut as a manager we all expect this match with a high interest.

That’s right – despite of winning the Serie A Maurizio Sarri got sacked after the end of the last season. Surprisingly for many Juventus’ board chose Andrea Pirlo to be his successor. The legendary ex-midfielder does not have any managerial experience so far, but he accepted the job. Pirlo even promised to “revive Juventus’ spirit” – something all the fans are hoping for.

The Brazilian international Arthur is Juventus’ big signing for the summer. The 24-years old midfielder arrives from Barcelona while Miralem Pjanic joined the Catalans. Another interesting signing is the 22-years old American Weston McKennie who arrived from Schalke 04 on loan. It’s expected Roma’s striker Edin Dzeko to join Juve in the next few days.

All of Juventus’ fans will be watching this game because of Andrea Pirlo. But not only because of him. The Old Lady is starting its road towards another Scudetto and now they have the first challenge ahead.

And if Pirlo does not have any experience yet, Sampdoria’s head coach Claudio Ranieri is a totally different case. Ranieri was approved by the board to continue manage the team despite finishing 15th in the 2019/20 season.

On the market Sampdoria did their best to reinforce the team. The club signed the young Scandinavian talents Mikkel Damsgaard and Kristoffer Askildsen while Napoli’s Lorenzo Tonelli also arrived at the Luigi Ferraris. Samp will hope for a better season compared to the previous one.

Win or lose for Andrea Pirlo for his debut at Juventus? The ex-midfielder is used to the pressure, so we don’t worry about him that much. Juve need to remind everyone how strong they are because they remain a favourite number one for the title. As for Sampdoria – they don’t have nothing to lose at the Allianz Stadium.
